GRENADA AND THE GRENADINES:
Wind Dancer, 7 Nights

Traveling the waters around Grenada and into the Grenadines, the Wind Dancer givers divers the opportunity to visit sites undiscovered by many.  This area of the Caribbean known as the “Spice Islands” is stunning both above and below the water. Grenada’s rugged, mountainous terrain of rain forest and waterfalls is accented by St. George, one of the most picturesque harbors in the Caribbean. The surrounding waters feature extensive reefs teeming with large and small fish, healthy hard and soft corals and sponges. Further north dramatic volcanic formations, spectacular wreck and wall diving await.  While there are some easy excursions on shallow reefs, most are more challenging drift dives. The Wind Dancer features all the Dancer Fleet amenities divers have come to expect including Nitrox fills (addition charge), private en-suite facilities, spacious lounge areas, fine dining and more.

Itinerary

Upon arrival in Grenada Saturday afternoon, you will then be transferred to the Wind Dancer. Boarding begins at 5:00 pm.  Dinner is provided onboard. After dinner an orientation slide show is presented and guests may retire at their leisure.

Sunday-Thursday: The trip begins in Grenada with an easy startup dive then heads north to Isle De Rhonde and the surrounding group of small volcanic islands for a day and a half diving sites such as Rhonde Reef and Sisters Rocks. The next day Wind Dancer moves to the islands of Carriacou and on to Bequia that evening. After a day of diving the sites around Bequia, we start back south and dive Isle de Quatre and the Tobago Cays Marine Park. Continuing south, we return to dive different sites of Carriacou and Frigate Island stopping at Isle De Rhonde for the evening. The final stop for the week is the wreck of the luxury liner Bianca C known as the ‘Titanic of the Caribbean’.

Dive sites usually include:

Sisters- A wide variety of sites are available around Isle De Rhonde. Sloping reefs, caves and walls are home various species of fish, corals and sponge. Currents here can range from mild to very strong.

Diamond Rock-A beautiful coral and sea fan encrusted wall with very little current. Huge parrotfish, hawksbill turtle and barracudas can be seen. Nurse sharks, rays, lobsters and eels are almost guaranteed. Mantas are occasionally sited in this area.

Boulders- An easy dive off Bequia with mild current. Drifting through tunnels and holes, divers can spot a variety of reef fish, eels and turtles as well as Nurse and reef sharks.

Fish Mouth- Mostly strong current carries divers along a vertical wall to a sandy bottom strewn with giant boulders decorated by sea fans and soft corals. Several large schools of creole wrasse, blue chromis, blue stripe grunts and barracudas inhabit this area.

Mayreau Gardens- Mild to strong currents travel along the reef amongst boulder coral, tall pillar coral, encrusted star coral and huge sea fans. Invertebrates, spotted drums, trunkfish and groupers hide beneath the coral overhangs and seahorses can be found in the algae growth. Bubbles trickling up from the sandy bottom are a sign of local volcanic activity.

Bianca C- This sunken cruise liner lies between 90-160 ft. There are plenty of deck features to explore such as the ships swimming pool, the steps to the upper promenade or swim into the open cargo hold. The wreck is covered in black coral trees and colorful sponges.

Friday: We return to port early afternoon. The rest of the day is free to relax on board or explore Grenada. Dinner this evening is at the Dingy Dock Bar (not included).

Saturday: Continental breakfast is available at 7:00 am. Disembarkation is at 8:00 am for all guests. Transfers to the airport are provided. Guests who are scheduled on a later flight may enjoy spending a few hours in town before returning to the airport.
